Fact: 96% of Pregnant Women at Planned Parenthood Get Abortions

SOURCE LINK: http://www.lifenews.com/2011/04/19/fact-96-of-pregnant-women-at-planned-parenthood-get-abortions/

I’ve been getting a lot of emails over the last week regarding a Planned Parenthood statistic that Students for Life of America has been using in emails and on our website. So, this morning I’m writing about it to address the facts and misinformation about there.

This is a Fact: Planned Parenthood is the nation’s largest abortion provider and 96% of its services for pregnant women are abortions.
For those who may try to rebut this, here is the documentation you need:
Looking at a 2010 fact sheet from their own website, Planned Parenthood provided 324, 008 abortion services, 2,405 adoption referrals, and 9,433 prenatal services in 2008. When calculated, abortion services accounted for 96% of the services provided to pregnant women.

Here is the math for those who still doubt:
2,405 +9,433 = 11,838 (services to pregnant women which are not abortions)
11,838 / 324,008 = .036 = 3.6%
100% – 3.6% = 96.4% (of services provided to pregnant women are abortions)
While this is an astounding number, the actual number of abortions that Planned Parenthood provides may actually be more than that!
The numbers Planned Parenthood provides in its reports are skewed and don’t give a full picture of the services Planned Parenthood is actually providing. Abby Johnson, former Planned Parenthood Director,  recently commented on the way Planned Parenthood reports on its numbers to ensure that the public will not know the truth of their business:
“And while Planned Parenthood says abortions make up just 3 percent of its services, I found they used an sleight of hand, unbundling family planning services so each patient shows anywhere from five to 20 “visits” per appointment (12 packs of birth control would show up as 12 individual visits). It does the opposite for abortion visits, bundling them together so each appointment shows as one visit. This skews the numbers. You have an overwhelming number of “visits” for family planning compared to abortion, even though you may have seen the same number of patients.”
The fact is, Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, has been caught time and again breaking federal and state laws by protecting racists, rapists, and sex traffickers of minors.
So why would we we trust them to provide accurate numbers of the abortions they provide?
The fact that 96% of Planned Parenthood services to pregnant women are abortions demonstrates that they aren’t about  promoting or facilitation “Parenthood” but about ending or stopping “Parenthood”.
From now on, I will call them Preventing Parenthood.

Updated March 20, 2011
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — The following is a compilation of bill signings, speeches, appointments and other actions that President Barack Obama has engaged in that have promoted abortion before and during his presidency.

While Obama has promised to reduce abortions and some of his supporters believe that will happen, this long list proves his only agenda is promoting more abortions.

During the presidential election, Obama selected pro-abortion Sen. Joe Biden as his vice-presidential running mate.

Q&A about Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood deceptions and lies run deep at the expense of young girls, women and the American taxpayer. Here is a list of frequently asked questions and answers that Planned Parenthood does not want you to read.  (From exposeplannedparenthood.net )

BEHIND CLOSED DOORS

Q: Isn’t Planned Parenthood a safe and trusted organization?

A: Planned Parenthood has proven itself to be the best friend and perfect partner for a sex trafficker and statutory rapist – all under the code of confidentiality, no questions asked, and abortion is a good solution in any situation. Live Action undercover investigations consistently show Planned Parenthood at all levels endangering the health and safety of young girls.
Q: So what if Planned Parenthood fired just one New Jersey clinic manager for her willingness to aid and abet a self-identified pimp “manage” his 14 – 15 year old prostitutes – Isn’t that just an outlier?
A: No, unfortunately it is only one of the latest examples of Planned Parenthood facilitating the sexual exploitation of young girls.
Q: How long has this been going on and how can you prove it?
A: Four years of Live Action undercover investigations show 17 Planned Parenthood clinics in 10 different states guilty of the same willingness to aid and abet the sexual exploitation of minors.
In 2008, 10 Planned Parenthood clinics in CA, IN, AZ, TN, AL, and WI were willing to ignore mandatory reporting laws for sexual abuse so that they could procure secret abortions for minor girls with much older sexual partners.
This year, seven Planned Parenthood clinics in NJ, VA, NY, and DC were willing to aid and abet child sex trafficking, helping a man posing as a pimp and a prostitute “managing” an underage sex ring to get secret abortions, contraceptives, and STD testing to keep their commercial child rape business “safe” and operational.
The New Jersey Attorney General has directed her criminal justice division to investigate the matter, and the Virginia Attorney General has expressed serious concern at what the investigations revealed.
Q: What if the clinic workers did the right thing? Isn’t it safer for Planned Parenthood to equip the pimp and prostitutes with contraception instead of just sending them back out on the street?
A: Helping a pimp continue his commercial child rape business is never the right thing to do. Yet Planned Parenthood consistently counseled how the girls could get secret abortions and set up on birth control plans – all of which financially benefit Planned Parenthood and would keep their abuse secret and perpetuate their sex slavery. Sex trafficking is a federal crime and carries a potential life sentence.
Real help for abused girls is getting them out of the abusive situation, not trying to make the abuse “safe.”
Q: But aren’t the videos edited? I’ve heard that Live Action doctored the footage.
A: The videos are not “doctored.” The complete, unedited footage of Live Action’s recent investigations has remained available to the public on their website and Live Action has independently shared all footage with the U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to supplement any investigation into Planned Parenthood.
Live Action has provided abridged versions of some videos to feature the lowlights, much like news stations incorporating only minutes or seconds of video snippets in their nightly newscast from the original hours of footage originally recorded. The unconscionable actions of Planned Parenthood are the same in the abridged versions as they are in the full footage.

ABORTION-FIRST BUSINESS

Q: Planned Parenthood only reports 3% of its services have anything to do with abortion. Aren’t they mostly dedicated to providing family planning services to low-income populations?
A: The 3% statistic is misleading because Planned Parenthood unbundles its services when reporting them. Last year, Planned Parenthood saw 3 million clients and performed 324,008 abortions—at least one in 10 Planned Parenthood clients receives an abortion. As Abby Johnson, ex-Planned Parenthood director and employee of eight years has shared, they push for abortions above anything else because it’s the most profitable part of their business.

Q: But doesn’t Planned Parenthood prevent more abortions by offering contraception?

A: No. According to Planned Parenthood’s own estimates in an October 2010 fact sheet, they perform more abortions than they prevent. (324,008 abortions to 283,000 prevented)
Q: If Planned Parenthood didn’t receive federal funding, where else would people get free STD testing?
A: Nearly 7,000 Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) are scattered throughout the country and provide even more free assistance to underprivileged people. Planned Parenthood only has 800 clinics nationally and may turn people away if they can’t pay.

Q: What about cancer screening and much-needed mammograms?

A: Planned Parenthood does not provide mammograms. Even though they tout the ability to provide mammograms, there is no Planned Parenthood clinic that actually provides them in-house.  They have to refer out for them, just like most other clinics, which means they are not allocating their federal dollars to help low-income women pay for mammograms.
Q: Won’t people be stuck with nowhere to turn for health care without Planned Parenthood?
A: Planned Parenthood would love you to believe they are the only place to access free or low cost healthcare, but that is absolutely false. Nearly 7,000 Federally Qualified Health Centers in the U.S. provide comprehensive health care for men, women and children, instead of the narrow spectrum of care offered by Planned Parenthood.
FQHCs are able to provide annual exams, STD testing, all birth control methods and everything else Planned Parenthood provides – except abortion.  They also provide many services Planned Parenthood does not offer including vaccinations, x-rays, vision, dental, prenatal care and primary care to all members of the family.
Q: Why can’t we subsidize Planned Parenthoods that don’t perform abortions?
A: Good question. The sad fact is that Planned Parenthood is forcing every one of its 99 affiliates throughout the country to offer abortions by at least one of its clinics by 2011.  Once again, abortion is much more important to Planned Parenthood than they’d like you to believe.

FOLLOW THE MONEY

Q: Isn’t Planned Parenthood just a family planning non-profit?
A: Planned Parenthood is the nation’s top abortion chain having performed more than 324,000 abortions in 2008.  They receive more than one third of their billion-dollar budget from taxpayer subsidies. And, despite being legally registered as a “non-profit” entity, Planned Parenthood reported $63 million in profits in their last annual report.

Q: But isn’t it against the law to use federal dollars to pay for abortions?

A: That is what Planned Parenthood repeats over and over again, but as Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-FL) recently explained, “these dollars are fungible” and “federal funding allows the group to use other funds for abortions.”
Fungible means interchangeable. All Planned Parenthood clinics and affiliates pay dues to Planned Parenthood national, and so the money received by clinics all goes into one pot at the end of the day.
Q: Abortion is still legal. So why should we stop funding Planned Parenthood?
A: People who are pro-life and pro-choice overwhelmingly agree: our hard-earned money should not be paying for abortions. Recent polling has shown that the vast majority of Americans agree that their hard-earned tax dollars should not subsidize Planned Parenthood, especially not to the tune of more than $360 million every year.  Imagine what these people would say if they knew their money was also being used to pay for an organization that aids and abets child sex trafficking.

CONGRESS MUST SPEAK NOW

Q: Why should we expect Congress to cease funding when they dozens of other legislation to consider in the budget?
A: We elect Members of Congress to be our voice.  Ideology and politics aside, what member of Congress would want to vote for taxpayer funding of an organization willing to engage in sex trafficking and sexual exploitation of young girls? For those who do, it will be telling to see how they explain their vote to constituents back home.
If there ever was a time to stop funding Planned Parenthood, it’s now. If we are really serious about the financial crisis and cutting back spending, this is the first place to start.

Q: What if Congress does not prevent our tax dollars from paying for abortions and the abuse of children at Planned Parenthood?

A: Acquiescence to a corrupt, dangerous organization like Planned Parenthood is unconscionable. If a Congressional Member is complicit in funneling our taxes into a corrupt organization that profits off of the exploitation of young girls, they will need to face that voting record in their reelection campaign.

How Catholic Universities Support Planned Parenthood

Monday, April 11, 2011
The U.S. House of Representatives has voted to de-fund the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood. Now, it looks as if the Senate will be voting on the issue as well.
Meanwhile, a new report, “A Scandalous Relationship: Catholic Colleges and Planned Parenthood”, by the Manassas, Va.-based Cardinal Newman Society, reveals more than 150 current and past connections between Catholic colleges and universities and Planned Parenthood.

The Cardinal Newman Society broke the connections down into seven different categories: Counseling and Medical Referrals; Internships and Fellowships; Job Referrals; Faculty, Staff, Leaders; Campus Clubs and Events, Academic Activities and Referrals; and Student and Alumni Recognition.

The report includes many well known Catholic colleges and universities, including the University of Notre Dame, Georgetown, Marquette University Law School, Boston College, Seattle University, St. Louis University, and many others.

The following is just a sampling. For the complete report and all of the examples, visit the Cardinal Newman Society.
Marquette University Law School (WI) includes a “Milwaukee Survival Guide” on its website, recommending the services of Planned Parenthood and the National Organization for Women.

Mount St. Mary’s College’s (CA) Counseling and Psychological Services offers a list of “Pregnancy and Parent Resources,” which includes the Santa Monica Center of Planned Parenthood, the Los Angeles Center of Planned Parenthood, and Catholics for Choice.

Assumption College’s (MA) Student and Development and Counseling Center recruited students in 2007 for summer internships with the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts.

The University of Dayton’s (OH) Women’s Gender and Studies Program identifies “placement opportunities” for student “service learning,” including Planned Parenthood.
Both the University of San Diego and the University of San Francisco’s Career Services offices list Planned Parenthood among resources for future careers.

University of St. Thomas  (MN) adjunct professor Jennifer Oliphant, touts her experience as a health educator with Planned Parenthood of Minnesota/South Dakota.

Spalding University associate professor of communication touts her credentials of having served on the board of Planned Parenthood.

Gonzaga University (WA) highlights the credentials of a member of the Board of Regents, including her service on the Board of Planned Parenthood.

The College of St. Catherine (MN) communications students’ COMM Club announced in April 2007 their plans for a support rally for Planned Parenthood.

The Cardinal Newman Society notes that all of this information was publicized on the Internet, and therefore probably only represents the tip of the iceberg.
“What is publicized on the Internet often indicates more extensive concerns hidden from public view,” said the Newman Society in a press release.

“The brazen manner in which Catholic colleges and universities are publicly disclosing – even proudly touting – their ties or the ties of their employees, students, and alumni to Planned Parenthood is shocking,” says the introduction to the report.
“In no way can the work of Planned Parenthood be considered compatible with the mission of Catholic higher education or the moral teachings of the Catholic Church.”
The Cardinal Newman Society urges Catholic colleges and universities to embrace a “no-tolerance position for any relationship with Planned Parenthood.”

Only Care About the Baby in the Womb?

All evil begins with a lie. To identify the lie is to unmask the evil.

One of the most efficient lies, a hand grenade meant to derail the debate, is that pro-lifers only care about the baby while it’s in the womb. Once it’s born, so the talking point goes, we have no use for mother and child. The punch line is that our love is cheap. So long as we don’t need to put out any money, we love babies.

It’s a lie straight from the pit of hell.

The truth is that liberal lies are easy to unmask.

Simply turn the table. Think of the opposite of what they are saying. They constantly accuse us of that for which they are guilty. Take the current allegation into consideration.

Pro-lifers informally and institutionally provide cribs, clothes, toys, diapers, food, job training, tutoring, mentoring for single mothers. Add to that child care, baby-sitting, and life-skills training. For those not able to keep their child, we provide adoption services. Catholic hospitals provide free pre-natal and pediatric care to get mothers launched in the right direction. We dig deep into our pockets to help these women and children.

Pro-choicers, on the other hand, prefer to use taxpayer dollars to kill babies rather than put themselves out there for women and children. In a nation equally divided over abortion, that means pro-lifers pick up half the tab of every abortion receiving government subsidy through medicaid or Planned Parenthood. Pro-choicers then assume the other half of the $450 bill through taxes.

So who puts their time and money where their mouths are? Pro-lifers.

Who are the ones who would rather see a child die than dig deep in order to help the mother who all too often is having the abortion because she doesn’t feel that there are viable options?
Pro-choicers.

In the years that I have attended the March and stood at the Supreme Court Steps, I’ve heard literally hundreds of post-abortive women give their testimony.

NOT ONE ever said that an abortion clinic employee ever asked if she was doing this because she felt there were no other options.
NOT ONE reported a clinic employee offering assistance.
NOT ONE reported the presence of a case worker or social worker trying to ensure that the woman knew all of the many services of government and private charity.
NOT ONE reported a clinic worker trying to ascertain if this was truly a CHOICE or the woman being threatened or coerced into an abortion.
NOT ONE!!!

What I did hear repeatedly was threats from family and boyfriends, of parents dragging the girl to the abortuary, of loneliness, fear, isolation, shame, guilt, and ignorance of the reality of a baby well along in its development.

No word on pro-choicers actually educating women about their choices, empowering women to choose life by offering access to the means necessary to sustain that life nutritionally, medically and socially.
It’s simply cheaper to kill a baby than to commit to mother and child post-partum-the very non-commitment of which they accuse us. That’s because the “choice” agenda is evil, and because such evil is non-love and anti-love at once.

Love gives life, nourishes hope, and is fed by faith. It is the fire that burns within.
Juxtapose that with the same word every woman at the Supreme Court has used to describe the abortuaries: COLD.

Cold is the absence of love. It is dead. It is also how some of the Christian mystics have described visions of hell. No fire. Just icy black cold. The total absence of love: God’s or anyone else’s.
So there is the truth behind the lie, the coldness of evil, the absence of charity on the part of pro-choicers.

We need to pray for them in earnest, for their conversion. Only the Fire of Love, that gift of the Holy Spirit, can melt an icy black heart. We pro-lifers will witness that to the extent we look upon our brothers and sisters in the pro-choice movement with love and not with malice or contempt. It’s hard at times, but it’s our imperative.

Do Not Support American Cancer Society Relay for Life if You Are Pro Life

Its springtime and Relays for Life, the American Cancer Society’s main fundraiser, are happening in cities all across the country over the next several months. It can be difficult for pro-life advocates to decide exactly how involved to be in events like this, as we can all agree that curing cancer is an important goal, even something worth supporting.

Unfortunately the American Cancer Society is not an organization I can support, as they have been linked to organizations that support abortion, human cloning and Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research (HESCR).

A friend of mine and strong pro-life advocate, Clinton, found himself in an awkward situation last week. His Christian band had agreed to play at a Relay For Life not knowing that some of the money goes to HESCR. While meeting with Clinton, this question came up: “which is worse, giving up a ministry opportunity where Christian music could be heard by non-believers, or supporting something contrary to one’s beliefs?”

I responded by offering this analogy:
Imagine you’re in a German Christian band in 1941. You’ve happily agreed to play at a rally in support of research and treatments for hypothermia. It sounds like an important cause, raising money to treat a condition that plagues many people around the world every year.

However, a few days before the event you learn that a portion of the money raised at the rally will be sent to support the research of Dr. Rascher at the Dachau concentration camp. Dr. Rascher conducted human experiments on Jews, for the purpose of creating treatments for hypothermia, an issue Nazi soldiers were struggling with on the Eastern front. One study forced subjects to endure a tank of ice water for up to five hours. Another study placed prisoners naked in the open air for several hours with temperatures as low as 21°F. Approximately 100 people are reported to have died as a result of these experiments. Would you still play at the rally?

Clinton agreed it was a fair analogy to HESCR, and didn’t want to play at Relay for Life. However, his band leader had made the counter-argument that the band isn’t actually donating money to the ACS. They were just going to be there, playing Christian music. That’s not as bad, right?

I responded that he would have to make the judgment call of whether the band could be seen as implicitly supporting the rally. I explained that I’m willing to speak at events where I don’t agree with all of the beliefs held by the organization hiring me, because by taking a speaking gig, I’m not implicitly endorsing them. On the contrary, I’m the one being endorsed by the event leaders. However, if I have someone on my pro-life podcast, I may be seen as implicitly endorsing their views.
Clinton decided not to play at the Relay for Life rally, and I think he made the right decision. It would be especially confusing for Christians to see a Christian band at the rally, furthering their false assumption that the rally is only raising money for ethical research.

So what does this have to do with you? “I’m not in a Christian band,” you reply. This may be true, but the underlying principles are the same for a pro-life advocate who is asked to donate money to a Relay For Life. I think this is a great opportunity for you to kindly respond that while you believe research to cure cancer is very important, this particular organization also funds experimentation on human embryos, thus you can’t in good conscience donate money to them.

If human embryos are just as human as you or me, than the Dachau analogy is a fair one, except that embryos don’t feel pain when they’re experimented on or killed. This doesn’t affect the moral equation much though, as what Dr. Rascher did would have still been considered a heinous human rights violation even if he anesthetized the Jews before using them for unethical experiments.
“But,” your ACS-supporting friend objects, “that’s different! The embryos used in stem cell research aren’t human, are they?”

And that is the start of a great conversation.
